SWS hosts the prestigious Western Federation of Watercolor Societies annual exhibition this year in Grapevine, Texas. The Western Federation of Watercolor Societies (WFWS) was formed in 1976 by the New Mexico Watercolor Society and included nine other watercolor societies. The purpose was to make a large and prestigious watercolor exhibition available at low cost to members for small and often isolated watercolor groups. Today, the WFWS includes over 5,000 artists in ten regional watercolor societies and guilds.

Southwestern Watercolor Society meets the second Tuesday of each month, with the exception of June, July, August and December.

Traditionally, most meetings feature a live painting demonstration from a nationally known, award winning artist. Most of these artists are also in town to conduct a three or four day workshop for SWS.
The guest artist for the May 9th meeting will be Michael Holter.

Meetings start at 7:00 pm at the Lovers Lane Methodist Church and most are held in Asbury Hall.

Anyone who would enjoy an evening of camaraderie with other people who are interested in art and would like to learn more about watermedia is invited. Please join us for an informative evening.

This class is full and the waitlist is full.

This workshop will be my approach to painting portraits with watercolor. We will be painting from a reference photo supplied by me or you can use your own. I will do step by step instruction and provide much individual attention. In addition to watercolor technique, I will be teaching the basic proportions of the head and the planes of the face (although you will trace your portrait).

I will also teach the many watercolor tips and tricks that I have picked up over the years. You will need just basic watercolor supplies that you probably already have. I will supply a more detailed list before the class with plenty of time to order anything that you might not have. I will have with me to loan, extra brushes, paper and things that a student may not have. This workshop will be my approach to painting portraits with watercolor.
