Abstract painter Stan Kurth calls himself an intuitive painter. By that, he means that his painting is about embracing feeling and instinct. He begins his work without any preliminary thoughts or plans for a specific object or subject. Starting with a blank substrate, he makes marks using a variety of tools, creating a library of design elements and applying design principles until a personal aesthetic is achieved. He does not use any external reference source for his paintings.
Stan was born and raised in Phoenix, and has been painting since he was four years old, He studied English literature and history at Northern Arizona University while completing many courses in painting and drawing. He worked as a graphic designer for 35 years, Stan Kurth currently devotes himself entirely to painting and teaching workshops around the country.
