Known for its opacity and brilliant color, gouache is a versatile water-based paint that has recently grown in popularity. This workshop will help students make the most of the medium, from transparent washes to opaque applications. Its soft, velvety matte finish is well suited to still lifes and luminous landscapes. Although more forgiving than watercolor, gouache still benefits from a thoughtful approach. Marian will share techniques that help students use the medium effectively. Its fast-drying time makes it ideal for quick studies on location as well as larger studio work.

Marian Hirsch is a full-time professional artist known for working seamlessly across multiple media. She is a signature member of the Southwestern Watercolor Society, the Pastel Society of the Southwest, the Pastel Society of America, Texas and Neighbors, and Associated Creative Artists. Her paintings are included in numerous corporate art collections, and her art has been featured in art magazines and books. Participants can bring their lunch, order food delivery, or take a short lunch break at nearby restaurants. The room has a kitchen with a microwave and refrigerator available for our use.
Registration is open to SWS members or nonmembers at a cost of $100 or $115 respectively. Remember to log in prior to registering in order to receive the member price.
